Summary

It's full-fledged war as Briar, the rat creatures, and the Pawan army storm the city of Atheia。 The Bone cousins, Thorn, and Gran'ma Ben are all there to defend the Valley and stop the return of the Lord of the Locusts。 When Thorn goes inside a ghost circle, she hears a voice urging her to seek the Crown of Horns。 What follows is another dangerous journey for Thorn and loyal Fone Bone as they race to the sacred grounds of the dragons, searching for the one thing that may save them all。 This is the breathtaking conclusion to Jeff Smith's nine-book graphic novel series。

A very satisfying action packed, dark, sweet, funny, conclusion to the series。 Somehow still a tight, cohesive narrative despite all those adjectives。 Goodbye Valley。

And so ends Bone。 It's been quite the wild ride, packed with humor, adventure, and danger。 All of those elements are in this last volume too as the final confrontation between the Lord of Locusts and humanity occurs。 There's so many good elements in this book, and in this series。 Jeff Smith amps up the drama and danger and delivers。 I like how Phoney Bone never learns his lesson too。 And so ends Bone。 It's been quite the wild ride, packed with humor, adventure, and danger。 All of those elements are in this last volume too as the final confrontation between the Lord of Locusts and humanity occurs。 There's so many good elements in this book, and in this series。 Jeff Smith amps up the drama and danger and delivers。 I like how Phoney Bone never learns his lesson too。 。。。more

It may rush it’s ending a bit for my taste but all in all it’s a great conclusion to a wonderful series。

3。5 stars。 I've decided to round down with my rating rather than up, because, while this was a solid conclusion I would have liked a little more closure。 Certain plot points felt hurried in Smith's haste to get to the next scene, and I had anticipated less of an 'open ending' conclusion than what actually happened。 Even still, I'm glad I took the time to read these books。 The storyline was definitely unusual - unlike anything I've ever read before - but these characters are utterly unique in the 3。5 stars。 I've decided to round down with my rating rather than up, because, while this was a solid conclusion I would have liked a little more closure。 Certain plot points felt hurried in Smith's haste to get to the next scene, and I had anticipated less of an 'open ending' conclusion than what actually happened。 Even still, I'm glad I took the time to read these books。 The storyline was definitely unusual - unlike anything I've ever read before - but these characters are utterly unique in their own way, and I doubt I shall ever forget any of them。 。。。more

I forgot that I was going to review the whole series when I finished the last one。 Better late than never。 I read this series as a kid and it blew my mind with the humor nd the characters and the world that Jeff Smith wove and pictured into existence。 Reading the series again I was wowed again as I found myself still impressed and still laughing and still in wonder。 And with more life under my belt I still found deep connections with the romances, struggles, and friendships。

I love Bone。 Amazing characters, funny, witty, suspenseful and nice art。 I really like Fone Bone and Smiley Bone but somehow hate Phoney。 It has been a fun ride。

A fitting finale to a supremely entertaining series。

What a great series! The ending might be a little abrupt, I wanted to see Bonneville, but whatever。I would definitely recommend this series。 I don't think I can say anything that hadn't been said, but I liked the quiche rats and the Red Dragon。 Oh and Ted。 He was probably the most useful character。 What a great series!

Genre: Traditional FantasyGrade Level: 5thI upped the grade level once again for the final installment because of how dark it could get and I remember some of the illustrations being a little intense for me when I read it in fifth grade。 As the grand finale of the main series, it accomplishes everything in a satisfying way and I'm glad it was able to stick the landing at the end。 It was one of my favorite books as a kid, and I still think this book has some of the best illustrations in the serie Genre: Traditional FantasyGrade Level: 5thI upped the grade level once again for the final installment because of how dark it could get and I remember some of the illustrations being a little intense for me when I read it in fifth grade。 As the grand finale of the main series, it accomplishes everything in a satisfying way and I'm glad it was able to stick the landing at the end。 It was one of my favorite books as a kid, and I still think this book has some of the best illustrations in the series。 I love nearly everything about this and it makes me glad that I revisited the series。 10/10 graphic novel in an amazing and creative series。 。。。more

An ending that manages to be satisfying, heart-breaking, chock-full of adventure, and really everything you could hope for。 Gah, I cried as a kid and cried as a grownup at Thorn and Bone parting。

Well, I know I have the Coda and some of the post-core narrative volumes to plumb through, but I have mostly mixed feelings about the ending to this narrative。 I feel like the one character that got a major payoff via sacrifice was maybe not the character most deserving of that arc。 Everyone else either had a tidy or non-impactful terminus to their narrative。 The way the relationship between Thorn and Fone Bone was negotiated at the end also felt forced and left me fairly unsatisfied, and the re Well, I know I have the Coda and some of the post-core narrative volumes to plumb through, but I have mostly mixed feelings about the ending to this narrative。 I feel like the one character that got a major payoff via sacrifice was maybe not the character most deserving of that arc。 Everyone else either had a tidy or non-impactful terminus to their narrative。 The way the relationship between Thorn and Fone Bone was negotiated at the end also felt forced and left me fairly unsatisfied, and the resolution of the dragon/locust tension seemed rushed at best。 This remains a fun, charming, and endearing story that also just feels limited by some of Smith’s narrative decisions and the limitations of the comic genre — if this were the same story running to the same ending, but given say 120 issues to build characters and backstory, it might work a lot better。 I wouldn’t want to say this remains YA because of these limitations, but it definitely doesn’t feel as transcendent as reviews might otherwise indicate the final product actually is。 。。。more

Growing up, the "Bone" series has been one of my favorites。 The human characters that I can relate to, as well as the non-human characters such as bone and the Red dragon。 These books always fascinate me。 I recommend this book to everyone, as I think everyone that reads it would enjoy it。 The book is filled with surprises and keeps the reader engaged at all times。 Growing up, the "Bone" series has been one of my favorites。 The human characters that I can relate to, as well as the non-human characters such as bone and the Red dragon。 These books always fascinate me。 I recommend this book to everyone, as I think everyone that reads it would enjoy it。 The book is filled with surprises and keeps the reader engaged at all times。 。。。more

A good, not great ending to an overall very enjoyable saga。 The final volume underwhelmed a little but everything enjoyable from the previous volumes is present here。 Though I felt the conflict was resolved abruptly, it still came to a mostly satisfying conclusion。

All of the previous books all felt like a tremendous build up to one grande finale。 Considering how far this series has come, seeing how the characters are all facing threats of catastrophic war, the series has definitely grown from its innocent, lighthearted beginnings。 I really love the sprinkles of dark undertones and foreshadowing throughout the series that all lead up to this finale。 And boy does this finale deliver! The imminent threat of war and its daunting hour has now arrived。 The visuals are absolutely stunning and beautifully capture the war-torn atmosphere。 It’s clear that the characters have been through a lot; they carry around a much heavier heart and the illustrations do a phenomenal job is portraying the wariness and heavy emotions on the characters’ faces as the series went on。 All of the events of Thorn’s emotional journey lead up to this moment of her final hurrah to save the valley by finding the Crown of Horns。 Thorn has definitely been through so much to become the woman she is。 And as for the Bone cousins, we get a bittersweet conclusion to their time in the valley。 Proud of Phoney for not taking the opportunity to abandon everyone in their time of need for Boneville。 Even he has come a long way!I was hoping for a more drawn out final battle between Rose and Briar, but given the already longer than average book length, the battle was satisfactory and did the job。 I was also a tad disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of the dragons throughout the series。 I wished they didn’t lay dormant through much of the final books, but I was very happy to see that the Great Red Dragon came through for everyone in the end。 What a way to conclude a fantastic series! Deserves way more than 5 stars! 。。。more

Bone is a great series that is well worth reading for kids and adults alike。 This one ends it, but the entire series follows a series of 3 act arcs (within each of the 9 books as well as each "trilogy", and within the 9 books as a whole) which give it a steady rise and fall of action。 The characters, while fairly 1-dimensional, have some depth and emotion, especially those who are not purely good or evil。 Bone is a great series that is well worth reading for kids and adults alike。 This one ends it, but the entire series follows a series of 3 act arcs (within each of the 9 books as well as each "trilogy", and within the 9 books as a whole) which give it a steady rise and fall of action。 The characters, while fairly 1-dimensional, have some depth and emotion, especially those who are not purely good or evil。 。。。more

Just finished reading the series。 I grew up with reading the first book and only dreamed of reading the others。 No library or bookstore ever had them all and when it came to comics reading them virtually were never as fun。 But its hilarious and its filled with light jokes and expressive art。

This review will serve as my review for all of the Bone series。 I had heard good things about this and when I decided to pick it up I thought I would just read the first two that I found in a free library kiosk。 I didn't want to commit to the entire thing, until I realized that it was a more limited series than I thought, and that reading the first two volumes meant I had basically already finished off around 1/4 of it。 So I got the rest from my local library and polished them off。 This is a gre This review will serve as my review for all of the Bone series。 I had heard good things about this and when I decided to pick it up I thought I would just read the first two that I found in a free library kiosk。 I didn't want to commit to the entire thing, until I realized that it was a more limited series than I thought, and that reading the first two volumes meant I had basically already finished off around 1/4 of it。 So I got the rest from my local library and polished them off。 This is a great series。 Whimsical and fun, with the three "Bones" (their very whimsical-looking species is never explained) somehow finding their way into a valley where the End of Times is shaping up。 The characters are all great, from ancient dragons, to evil rat-creatures, to not-so-evil rat creatures (with a penchant for quiche, no less!), to human townsfolk。 Ancient civilizations, locked-away evils, fallen kingdoms, long-forgotten family betrayals, there is a lot going on here in a very coherent mythology doled out in small bits here or there as the full picture is unfurled。 (I don't know that I would have stuck with this "live" as it took like 10 years for the entire series to be released, but it's a great read-through if you can get your hands on all of it at once。) This would be a great starter set for anybody looking to get their kids into, or at least to understand, graphic novels。 My one complaint is that there is little character development, especially amongst the 3 main "Bone" characters。 One is always kind of silly, one is always looking for the next con, and the third is always love-struck, sweet on one of the human girls in the valley, but they never deviate from that original characterization。 It's the only reason this gets 4 stars instead of 5。 Otherwise a weird amalgamation of something like Lord of the Rings with some very hilarious off-kilter humor (did I mention that 2 of the rat-creatures have an ongoing argument about whether proper monsters like quiches?), it's a fun, relatively light read with just enough gravitas to be more than fun pictures on a page。 A worthy graphic novel in its entirety。 。。。more
